Seawall questions, answered
Are you a seawall contractor?
No. Seawall Repair Pinellas is a referral service. We connect you with independent, licensed local contractors, who give their own estimates, pull permits and do the work.
Who issues seawall permits in Pinellas County?
Pinellas County's Water and Navigation section permits seawalls, docks and riprap in every Pinellas city and in unincorporated areas. Your city may have its own building permit or pre-approval step as well.
How do I know if my seawall needs repair?
Common signs are holes or soft spots in the yard near the wall, sand at the base of the wall at low tide, spalling concrete on the cap, and a wall that has started to lean toward the water.
What does seawall repair cost?
Published 2026 figures put repairs around $100 to $250 per linear foot and Florida replacements around $500 to $1,200 per foot. Your contractor's written estimate is what counts.
Is the estimate free?
Yes. The estimate is free and there's no obligation. You decide whether to hire the contractor.
Does homeowners insurance cover seawall repair?
Often not, unless the damage came from a covered event, and policies vary widely. Check your policy and talk to your agent.
How long do seawall permits take in Pinellas?
It varies. Pinellas County publishes a Water and Navigation permit times dashboard showing current review times.
Can I repair my own seawall?
Small observations and maintenance, yes. Structural repairs and most work on the wall need a licensed contractor and may need a permit.
Why do I see holes in my yard near the seawall?
Usually because soil is washing out through a leaking joint. It's the earliest and cheapest stage to fix.
Should I get an inspection before buying a waterfront home?
It's a good idea. General home inspections often don't look closely at seawalls, and replacement can cost tens of thousands of dollars.
Are your images real projects?
No. They're illustrations made for this site, not photos of completed projects.
